Fresh meat travels a long way before it reaches the consumer’s plate. However, when transporting and storing meat, external conditions and handling practices are crucial for quality maintenance. And since eating rotten meat can be very harmful to our health, it is crucial that this is prevented. Coolpack has the expertise and solutions in house to ensure that your meat products arrive fresh at their destination.
Tools to transport fresh meat
Depending on the animal the meat is from, the meat must be processed, stored and transported at a different temperature. For poultry, for example, this is a maximum of 4 degrees Celsius, while for wild meat it is a maximum of 7 degrees Celsius. Gel packs are often used for refrigerated transport at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees. These are leak-proof bags filled with a coolant, which you bring to the right temperature for transport. To ensure temperature stability during transport and to keep the meat cooled for longer, combine it with a well-insulating packaging box. Popular options are the EPS box made of light polystyrene foam and the EcoCoolBox, which is a more environmentally conscious alternative.
If you want to transport meat frozen or at a different temperature range, you can also have the gel packs filled with PCM: Phase Change Material. This allows you to realize frozen transports down to -21 degrees Celsius.

When cooling your fresh products such as meat, the growth of the micro-organisms stops. The spoilage is then paused. Different microorganisms have different characteristics. Yet almost all micro-organisms grow at a temperature between 10 and 40 degrees Celsius. As a result, keeping meat chilled already significantly slows down spoilage. Freezing completely stops the growth of the micro-organisms.

In practice, environmentally unfriendly materials are frequently used to control the temperature in the packaging to prevent spoilage or reduction in quality. In recent decades, materials such as EPS, EPP, polypropylene and polyethylene have been used for this application, which have the disadvantage that they are not degradable in nature. Coolpack’s products are an indispensable link when it comes to thermal packaging, also known as thermal packaging. Met de juiste buitenverpakking kan voor een lange periode een zeer stabiele temperatuur worden aangehouden, namelijk tot een periode van 120 uur.
Om dit te realiseren kunnen de koelelementen worden gevuld met Phase Change Material (PCM). Door de hoge kwaliteit van deze vulling is het mogelijk stabiele temperaturen te behalen binnen een temperatuurrange van -65 tot +42 graden.
Indien de voorkeur uitgaat naar een flexibeler koelmiddel kunnen onze diepgevroren gelpacks ook worden ingezet om de te verzenden producten op temperatuur te houden. The gel packs can also be filled with PCM to maintain very stable temperatures for a long period.
