What are tempex boxes

Tempex, also known as EPS or Styrofoam, consists of expanded polystyrene. This material is ideally suited for refrigerated transport of products. Tempex boxes are generally perfect for a transport route of up to 48 hours at temperatures between 2 to 8 degrees. The exact insulation value is determined in part by the thickness of the box. The thicker the wall of the box, the better it insulates. Furthermore, goods can be conditioned even longer in combination with gel packs.

Fish

Styrofoam boxes are also commonly used for transporting fish. When fish are transported with shard ice, tempex boxes with leak holes are usually used. This allows melt water to drain away. When the fish is transported by airplane, fully sealed Styrofoam boxes are usually used. Gel packs, pallet covers and absorbent mats are also often used in this process.
