Coolpack adopts bee population
Bees are incredibly important to our biodiversity, but unfortunately they are having a very difficult time right now. Fortunately, as a company we can do something to improve the bee’s situation. By adopting a hive, we can do our part to preserve our biodiversity. After all, did you know that one colony of bees per day easily visits 21 million flowers within a 6-kilometer radius of the greenhouse?
Both in the Netherlands and around the world, pesticides and diseases have been causing mass mortality of bees for well over a decade. This is problematic, because did you know that as much as a third of all your food comes from crops pollinated by the bee? So bees are very important to maintain our biodiversity. Because without bees, there are no fruits, vegetables, clothing, feed, nuts and biofuels.

Adoption of hive
All this provided enough reason for us to take action. We therefore adopted our own bee population for the next two years. Initially, we wanted to place the hive on our office roof. But because it takes a year for bees to get used to a new environment, we chose to adopt an existing hive. Even though the bees reside at a distance, it does contribute to our ultimate goal of supporting the bee population and thus biodiversity.
Collaboration with the Side Business
The Bee Case makes it possible for us to adopt and maintain a hive. This organization of beekeepers takes care of the bees. An experienced beekeeper visits the hive regularly to make sure everything is still going well. And the honey? All our colleagues at Coolpack get to enjoy it!
